Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Turtles In Time

I'm clearly out of the Turtles continuity loop, because this collection references characters and plot devices that I was totally clueless about.

That said, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: TURTLES IN TIME was a real blast to read.
Through some circumstance that was never explained (At least in the review copy that IDW provided...) the Turtles find themselves lost in the time-stream, and visit four distinct eras in time: The Jurassic era, Feudal Japan, the Pirate-infested seas of the 1700's, and a near-future Manhattan that has been conquered by The Shredder.

Did you know that the Turtles are reincarnations of Splinter's murdered (Human!) children from Feudal Japan? Because I didn't. It's not really spelled out very well here...It seems almost assumed that you know all of this stuff....I had no clue, but the book handles the information well, and even manages to wring some pathos out of the scene of the Turtles meeting their human selves.

This was a fun read, and it was nice to revisit the world of the Turtles after such a long absence

 IDW provided a review copy.
